Airtasker for Tradies (2026)

Airtasker charges tradies a tiered 12.5-20% service fee on completed tasks. Customers pay connection fees on top. Fees verified against Airtasker's support pages (June-July 2026) and ASX filings (FY25, Aug 2025; HY26, Feb 2026). Airtasker occasionally runs randomised fee trials, so check the live in-app tier table for your rate.

How Airtasker charges tradies

Airtasker takes a cut when you finish a task. There is no upfront subscription for tradies. The fee you pay depends on how much you earn through the platform in a rolling 30-day window.

The fine print worth knowing

  • All service fees are quoted excluding GST. GST is added on top, so your actual out-of-pocket cost is higher than the headline percentage.
  • Airtasker runs “randomised fee studies” on its marketplace. Some taskers see temporary different rates while these trials run. Your published rate may not be the rate you actually pay.
  • A July 2026 user comment on Airtasker’s help pages claims Bronze may now be 22%, not 20%. Verify your live in-app tier table before publishing your own rate.
  • The US marketplace has a separate fee structure. All figures on this page are Australian only.

Oneflare’s closure changed the market

Airtasker acquired Oneflare in May 2022 for $9.8M and retired it on 30 June 2026. The Oneflare domain now redirects to Airtasker, meaning a chunk of Oneflare’s customer traffic now lands on Airtasker’s marketplace. If you were getting leads through Oneflare, that source is gone, and those customers are now Airtasker users. Read more about the Oneflare alternatives available to tradies.

Airtasker vs hipages for a trade business

Airtasker suits one-off and smaller jobs, or filling quiet days. hipages suits building a pipeline of dedicated trade work. The winning play is neither alone. Start with a free owned channel, a Google Business Profile, referrals, a direct lead-capture link, then add whichever marketplace fits your gap.

Is Airtasker worth it for tradies?

The maths are simple. A $250 average task at Bronze (20%) costs you $50 in service fees. At Platinum (12.5%), that same task costs $31.25. Because you only pay when you finish a task, the financial risk is low. You do not lose money on quotes that go nowhere.

The catch is the bidding-war dynamic. Customers post a task, multiple tradies quote, and the cheapest or fastest responder usually wins. That means thin margins on small tasks and customers who are shopping on price, not quality. For bigger, higher-value jobs, Airtasker is rarely where those customers look.

Test Airtasker without wasting time

  1. Pick 3–5 smaller tasks you would do anyway. Respond fast, price fair, and deliver well. Treat it as a reputation-building exercise, not a primary lead source.
  2. Track your actual earnings after fees. Record the task price, the service fee, and the time you spent. After a month, calculate your effective hourly rate. If it beats your quiet-day baseline, keep it in rotation.
  3. Own a free lead channel alongside it. Set up a Google Business Profile, ask happy customers for referrals, and use a direct lead-capture link. Airtasker fills gaps; your owned channel builds the pipeline.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Airtasker charge tradies?

Airtasker charges a tiered service fee of 12.5–20% of the task price, excluding GST. The rate depends on your rolling 30-day earnings: Bronze (under $880) pays 20%, Silver ($880–$2,650) pays 18.5%, Gold ($2,650–$5,300) pays 14.9%, and Platinum (over $5,300) pays 12.5%. GST is added on top.

Does Airtasker charge a monthly fee?

No. Airtasker does not charge tradies a monthly subscription. You pay the service fee only when you complete a task. Customers pay connection fees ($9.95–$59.95) when posting tasks, or they can buy an $89/year Airtasker Membership to get $0 connection fees on unlimited tasks.

Is Airtasker good for licensed tradies?

Airtasker suits one-off and smaller jobs, or filling quiet days. It is not a reliable pipeline builder for a full-time trade business. The bidding-war model means customers can price-shop, and margins thin out on small tasks.

What happened to Oneflare?

Airtasker acquired Oneflare in May 2022 for $9.8M and retired it on 30 June 2026. The Oneflare domain now redirects to Airtasker, so a chunk of that customer traffic now lands on Airtasker’s marketplace.
